Wer die Wahl hat, hat die Qual – So many choices, so little time

Exceptionally, I am presenting to you a Saturday Morning Special Post.

This was originally intended to be a Facebook post, but I got carried away reading news and stupid stuff. So, here we go with what I found this morning.

Note: I am awake because it appears that some people around here like to talk really loudly on Saturday morning; in my opinion, there should be a law which makes it unconstitutional to speak loudly in the morning – just like one that should forbid having cappuccino after lunch.

First things first: we need some sound. Among the many choices, I think Parov Stelar goes perfectly with this “soon-to-be-sunny” day in Munich:

Let’s start then.

1. Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal got it right with the comic about the history of technology. NB: the brain representing political analysis made me laugh more than I should have.

2. You can finally block those people that send you private messages/requests on LinkedIn. Thanks Mashable for the how-to part.

3. Many people are getting mad at Facebook acquiring WhatsApp because of “privacy issues”. Am I the only happy one? If they manage to integrate them I will just need one app between Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp, which means that I can finally install another app (yeah, I have a really crappy phone with little internal memory). Also, have you ever tried going to the Facebook settings and clicked on the tab “Apps”? You will see how many apps are already connected to your account. Finally, have you already forgotten the NSA scandal? Your data is in somebody else’s hands anyway.

4. Good news everyone: a start-up called Streak will let you know when recipients ready your e-mails. Yeah, I know, this thing is old news, but the pro of this one is that it is free – for the moment. I’m trying it out. Unfortunately, it’s not yet available for Firefox and Android.

5. This is how you pull a prank:

Unfortunately, as I read on the article from the Verge about the DHL ad, it was produced by an external company, with no involvement whatsoever from the delivery service.

Bonus point – just for Italians though.

DISCLAIMER: this is not the “Dottor Milione top 20 Youtube videos of 2013, but I will do that in the following days, so stay tuned!

DISCLAIMER P.S.: If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check the 2012 list.

So, the time for the usual yearly wrap-up has finally come.

2013 has been a pretty amazing year and, as it is usually happening recently, always better than the previous.

Easy to say, the most important thing that happened to me was my actual New Year – the 25th of August – when I moved to Copenhagen to start another amazing and interesting year abroad. I met some wonderful people, a new family, and the most amazing house I’ve ever lived in.

Another major win was the fact that I successfully made it throughout the year at Bocconi without dying or surrendering to the dark side (my exam sweatpants are the tangible proof).

And goats have finally taken over the Internet:

Also, it was a year of re-discovery: I travelled back to London after 6 years and to Dublin after 2 years. I finally had the chance to drink a Guinness again (I made a promise to myself that I would never drink Guinness outside Ireland – experts know that they are two completely different beers). It was breathtaking.

I also had the chance to meet again and talk to some old friends that I thought they were lost forever.

Finally, but this happened in 2014, I saw my beloved Xbox again. And it is also the reason why this post ends here. Sorry, I’ll be back shortly with the top videos of 2013.

Happy New Year everybody!

Sorry, I’m back…

…right when you lost faith in my blog.

Just kidding, I know you didn’t realize I wasn’t writing anymore.

This last couple of months have been unbelievably wonderful: I finally settled in Copenhagen (and I have no intention of leaving it). My flat is amazing, my flatmates too. And the people I’m meeting every day.

I have to summarize two months, but I’ll keep it as short as possible.

1) Copenhagen is not as cold as I’ve been told (so far). It’s just freakin’ windy

2) I couldn’t choose better courses than those I selected (we’ll see this at the exam)

3) Cyclists are crazy (but not as much as me)

4) I won some pretty awesome headphones thanks to Telia (see amazing picture attached):

5) I found some incredibly good Youtube channels: THIS and THIS. I got this song stuck in my head the whole day:

6) If you recycle here, you get the money back (guess how much my recycling rate went up):

7) If you don’t have a CPR, you are nobody (you will be asked for your CPR every time you want to do something that involves money)

8) I’ve got a Bugatti (just the bike, but I still have a Bugatti and you don’t!)

9) Everything’s happy, even sockets (this is probably the reason why Denmark is the happiest country in the world):

happy socket

10) My hand-ironing skills are reaching new unprecedented levels:

11) I miss Italian food (no jokes here, this is serious business):

12) Denmark landscape is astonishing:

13) Danish people love to control everything, also your farts’ speed…

14) …and they are not so good in selecting #hashtags:

15) Finally, I am studying. With a library like the Black Diamond, everything’s possible (sort of):

studying you're doing it right

That’s pretty much it, folks.

I hope you enjoyed the quick wrap-up of the last two months. Stay tuned for more news!

Lunch break

I finally wrote a post in the middle of the day. Incredible, huh?

So here’s the reason. In the last few days I’ve been watching so many beautiful ads that I couldn’t resist to make a mini-list with the ones that struck me the most.

Special thanks go to Samsung, Red Bull, Dove, Coca-Cola and Pepsi. So, here we go, no more waiting – lunch breaks are terribly short:

1. Is that an old man playing basketball? #uncledrew

2. You are more beautiful than you think #WeAreBeautiful

3. In my view, this is the best one. Coca-cola is winning the ad race

4. Good guy Adobe

5. Can you stare at something for that long?

6. From more than one year ago, but it still generates lots of buzz

7. Nice catch! Plus, you can see the birdcam here (not very recommended – it got me a headache) and he’s got a British accent

8. Probably the most intriguing one from Red Bull

9. If this video gets to 1 million views, Toyota will donate 1 million meals to food bank. ONLY ONE DAY LEFT!!

10. For travellers

11. Just discovered. Amazing (obviously, from Red Bull). The behind the scenes is spectacular.

12. And, finally, the best motivational video ever made

Enjoy your break (which is probably already gone, but enjoy it anyway)!!

Leaving is never easy

This post couldn’t start with a different song:

Every time it gets harder.

Today I started packing all my stuff, and I became sad. I know, I’m leaving in 2 days, but there is so much stuff that I need to start some days earlier.

Going through books, notes, presents, made me realise how amazing this year has been. Friends, exams, more-than-friends… This is where everything gets harder. Most of my classmates will only leave for a semester and they will be back here in Milan to complete their studies, but not me. I will spend the whole Academic Year in Copenhagen, and I’ll be back here in Italy just for the graduation (hopefully I’ll have a job there and I will be back in CPH).

Today I also packed my Xbox. I know it sounds stupid, but it was the hardest thing to do, because I will never be able to bring it over in Denmark, and it will have to remain at home… Good bye Xbox, take care!

good bye xbox

Apart from that, I already packed 3 suitcases. I still got 2 more bags to pack, but luckily I’ve got my awesome car here that will help me moving everything in just one trip (fingers crossed).

However, packing didn’t stop me from finding amazing videos on Youtube. I started to think that this is the real purpose of my life. So, here you go:

1. Amazing body-painting from Fiat USA… I’m wondering why we never get amazing ads like this in Italy (here the article from Mashable):

2. This NSA thing is getting out of hands:

3. Good ad from Qualcomm, showing how the world without mobile would be… The hashtag #BornMobile is getting trending on Twitter:

4. I’m still sad, and this song is the perfect background music I need:

There’s only one thing left in my drawer now. But it’s by far the most important thing now. BRING IT ON COPENHAGEN!!

Bring it on Copenhagen
